Why do you eat? To Stay healthy?Bored, tired, or stressed?
The purpose of eating is to nourish the body; provide it with the nutrients it requires for bodily functions.
The body needs vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fat, protein, and water. Vegetables and fruit of varying colors, nuts (walnuts and almonds) and seeds (flax, sesame), whole grains in moderation, and lean proteins will provide these nutrients.
When eating, ask yourself if the food items are nutrient dense- do they serve a purpose? Do they contain healthy vitamins & minerals? Does the fat come from a healthy source or is it saturated or trans fat? Does the carbohydrate have a good amount of fiber or is it high in sugar? Is the protein lean or fatty? When selecting items during your grocery shopping trip read the labels! It`s better to know what what your consuming rather then randomly selecting things.
The bottom line is this, if the food you are about to consume doesn’t serve a purpose, don’t put it in your mouth.
Do you find yourself eating really consistent and healthy during the week but when the weekend comes everything is thrown out the door. It`s ok to indulge a little but you still want to keep your nutrition consistent even on the weekends. If your having trouble eating healthy at fast food restaurants, try taking a step back and look at healthier options.
