Are you a victim of Junk food craving around mid afternoon or at night? If you are, it may be a difficult habit to break. So what do you do? Before we get to a conclusion, I’ve noticed that this seems to be a normal way of life for new clients that i work with. This article will tell you what you need to know to make sure that you win the battle with junk food cravings for good.
When i with new clients who have a habit of craving junk food i always like to explain this parable story. What would happen if you only fed a newborn baby twice a day. Or if you didn’t feed a newborn baby until lunch time? Handling a newborn is overwhelming in it self can you imagine depriving one of food. Id like to think that we are quite similar to babies in which the way we sometimes act when we don’t consume enough meals/snacks throughout the day. According to this Huffingtonpost article About 31 americans skip breakfast. Im sure the number is just as overwhelming for canadiens as well. The truth is that we need to consume small meals just as often as newborns. When we don’t this is when we start to experience cravings, low energy, loss of focus or mood swings. You can change this habit for good by applying these 3 simple tasks:
Prepare small meals and snack the day before
Make sure that you consume breakfast daily
Pack healthy snacks for mid morning and mid afternoon, include protein for both
Here is why eating breakfast and snacks are vital to kicking junk food cravings. Let’s start off with breakfast. The term breakfast means ‘break-fast’,breaking the fast from prior nights sleep. Let say your last meal at night is at 9pm. You wake up get ready for work skip breakfast and eat
your first meal at 12 noon. When you look at it this way the amount of time from your last meal to your first meal of the day is quite substantial. Starting off your day is important because it sets the tone for the day by giving you energy and focus during morning tasks.
Don’t overlook packing snacks for the day because this can be your saving grace. All though I’m not a big fan of protein bar. It would be wise to use them as a back up plan. Quest protein bars seem to be a popular choice with my clients and they are ranked 2nd on bodybuilding.com`s Top 10 protein bars (see link below). Snacks are great way to add more nutrients to your daily calories. They help stabilize your blood sugar levels, keep you feeling full throughout the day, balance your mood and keep you from reaching for a chocolate bar during those mid afternoon or late night hours. Believe it or the simple idea of having breakfast, preparing daily snacks, having a healthy lunch and dinner are the key factors to overcoming your junk food cravings. Try this simple strategy and let me know how it works for you.
